Annual Project - Members Only

Annual LCNUK Project (formerly workshop)
Evening of Monday 23rd September through Tuesday 24th September 2024
Burlington Hotel, Birmingham

We are delighted to announce that the 19th Annual LCNUK Project will be centred around the testing and refining of a simple tool to help assess and measure patient complexity/dependency. The aim will be to develop a tool that will support managers and commissioners of care to review workoad and capacity issues for lung cancer nurse specialists. Participants who commit to the project will be required to attend the meeting on 23rd/24th September, be involved in ad hoc telephone video-conferencing and attend a follow up meeting in March 2025.

Previous projects have proved incresibly successful with abstracts presented at World Conference on Lung Cancer and, importantly, have helped to drive change and increase knowledge and skills.

Attendance and registration costs are covered by LCNUK. Standard class travel expenses up to a maximum of £250 will be refunded by LCNUK subject to completion of an expenses claim form and accompanied by receipts where appropriate. Members are encouraged to book travel as early as possible to achieve the best possible travel rates.

Excellent opportunity for professional development

This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in an active, time-limited programme supported by expert facilitators and a project manager and to be involved in this tool's development and refinement. Our aim is to test the tool, refine and share widely. Upon completion of this project we will submit the work as an abstract at national and international lung cancer events and explore if the tool can be rolled out nationally.

Previous Projects include

  • Identifying and reducing inequalities for people affected by lung cancer
  • Psychological impact of lung cancer on patients and the role of the CNS in supporting patients psychological needs
  • How to improve working partnerships with Primary Care in order to prevent avoidable emergency attendance for patients for lung cancer
  • Can the early intervention of the LCNS reduce the length of stay for patients admitted via the emergency route on first presentation
  • Setting up  nurse-led clinics
  • Improving Survivorship Through Pre-habilitation at the Start of the Journey for lung cancer and mesothelioma.
  • All the past projects have helped to improve the outcomes and experience of care for patients with Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma as well as helping to secure the Lung CNS role.
  • The National Optimal Lung Cancer Pathway

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you want to know more about the project.
