This webinar is for all lung cancer nurses who care for patients who have dependent children. As younger people are diagnosed with lung cancers, especially onco-driven lung cancers you will be seeing more women, those of a younger age and those with dependent children. Parents are often unsure of how to talk to their children about their cancer diagnosis especially when it is incurable. They want to protect their children and research shows they want support from their HCP about talking to their children. It can be challenging as a lung cancer nurse to support parents who are patients to consider how best to prepare their children, you may not know where to start, where to refer for more support, or you may be worried about making this worse.
This webinar will:
- Identify the support needs of parents with children when a parents cancer cannot be cured
- Recognise the impact of parental bereavement on dependent children
- Recommend resources which can be used within your service to support parents
- Discover a training offer to build skills, confidence and knowledge of supporting parents to prepare their children and know how to apply for the training
